The Port of Barcelona will apply rebates to port fees for vessels that prove their sustainable environmental practices. To foster good environmental practices also in the maritime area, the Port of Barcelona will spend up to € 1 million in rebates for vessels meeting design and environmental practice standards. With these measures, the organisation recognises the three main incentive schemes used in European and world major ports such as the Environmental Ship Index, the Clean Shipping Index and the Green Award. read_more

A new edition of the Joan Guiu Regatta, one of the city's 'must attend' sailing events and an international benchmark event for solo sailing or in pairs, was held last Sunday. Xavier Rocas and Manuel Jene won in their vessel Cometa a Dos, with a time of 58 hours, stealing the victory from the Valentina, which, even though it came in earlier, was awarded second place after applying the time compensation under the ORC measurement system. read_more

Taking advantage of the first anniversary of the twinning between the cities of Fort Lauderdale and Mataró, a Catalan business delegation travelled to Florida in March to promote the relationship between the two cities. In 2015 Barcelona will again be the scene of one of the major international nautical events of the year. From 27 June to 4 July Barcelona will host the ORC World Championship, organised by the Barcelona Royal Yacht Club (Reial Club Nàutic de Barcelona). So far, with the first application period closed, 70 vessels from 17 different countries have registered to take part. These are extraordinary figures, considering that the contest aims to close the registration of participants at 120 and there are still more than 4 months to go until the Championship. read_more

The "design et al" magazine has shortlisted Marcelo Penna Yacht Design in one of the categories of the renowned International Yacht & Aviation Awards 2015 for yacht design. Marina Port Vell closed 2014 with the best results since the marina was transformed in 2010. Last year 282 superyachts berthed at its facilities, most of which used the new docks built during 2013 and 2014. The marina has a 170 berth capacity that can accommodate yachts up to 180 metres long. read_more
On Friday 13 February, Barcelona Clúster Nàutic will be holding a work session in collaboration with the UPC's Centre for Innovation and Technology entitled "Technologies in the Maritime Nautical and Port field - Exploring ideas to create value." After a period in the red, 2014 was a year of recovery for the marine industry, especially in terms of boat registrations. Over the past year Spain has seen an increase of 9.92%. Growth was particularly positive in Barcelona, rising from 378 in 2013 to 461 registrations in 2014, an increase of 21.96%. Barcelona is the second province, after the Balearic Islands, in the number of registrations and its share of this market in 2014 stood at 10.75%. read_more
On 27 March, Associació Joves per la Mar is to organise the first “Catalunya al través 2015” sail training regatta The association has already opened the registration period and participating vessels have until 28 February to complete their crews. One of the peculiarities of this regatta is that at least half of the team must be under 25 years old. This requirement does not affect the minimum numbers of professional crew or qualified crew members required to sail the vessel. read_more
